International literary evening at Tavira library – Wednesday 16 November
A mixture of Portuguese, Swedish, German and English, poems, stories and songs will be shared tomorrow night in Tavira Library (Wednesday 16 November) (6:30 doors open for 7:00 start). A few of the 15 Swedish writers visiting Tavira this week, will share their latest work alongside local writers and six students from the Escola Secundária Dr. Jorge Augusto Correia. The students will perform poems by Álvaro de Campos – one of the heteronyms of the Portuguese writer and poet Fernando Pessoa.
The Swedish writer’s group called “Magic – writers without boundaries” is led by Barbara Fellgiebel from Algarve Film and Literature Association. They are a lively and fun group, so the evening should be exceptional. When they met with a group of writers in Tavira on Monday afternoon this week, they shared how they came together and how some of them produced short stories that went into a joint book in German and Swedish. The book is about childhood.
Jazz music on piano will welcome people to this event.
At the start of the evening, local actor Vitor Correia will perform work by Fernando Pessoa. A screening of a recent dance performance by Ingela Karlsson from Sweden will also be shown.
Local novelist Barbara-Marie Mundt, has agreed to read from her latest novel “Die Salzwiesen” (salt marsh) which is the name of the book’s (fictional) river settlement.
Other writers will share stories and poems.
Three friends accompanied by guitar will sing songs by Bob Dylan who was recently awarded the Nobel Prize for Literature. Whether he will go to Sweden to pick up his award is still to be confirmed.
The students from Escola Secundária Dr. Jorge Augusto Correia are also taking part in the Álvaro de Campos festival. (Do check out the programme as there is a lot going on this month.) The students prepared art work in class and engravings resulting from a recent Bartolomeu dos Santos Workshop. Their work is now on show in an exhibition in Casa das Artes.
The exhibition is until the 30 November, Monday to Friday, between 17:00 and 20:00.
