As part of a cultural cooperation, between the International Association of Paremiology and the Santa Casa da Misericórdia de Tavira, a Finnish Male Choral group will perform in the Miscordia Church in Tavira this week. The Paremiology Association is dedicated to the scientific study of proverbs. The association believes that it is through proverbs that cultures cross over and understand each other on different levels. As an international association they encourage educational activities and create opportunities for the recognition and protection of intangible cultural heritage. As part of these aims the Helsinki choir has been invited to sing in Tavira.

The choir is called Helsinki soumailainan kuoro klubi (in Finnish) and it is committed to bringing people together from a range of ages and backgrounds. The choir aims to preserve the values of traditional Finnish music and the process of singing together for pleasure. The choir has already performed in other locations in Portugal. This week it performed in Sâo Bras Alportel. Rui Soares the President of the Paremiology Association said “this is a wonderful opportunity to see a skilled choir in Tavira”. “Everyone is welcome to attend this Easter Concert”.

The performance in Tavira in the Miscordia Church will be on Friday 22nd March and will begin at 6pm. The choir will perform to music by a number of composers including, Beethoven, Mozart, Verdi and Sibelius.
